U-16 Division 2 Championship Semi-final

Caulry 1-14
Garrycastle 2-10

Caulry qualified for the final of the Under 16 championship when they overcame Garrycastle in a keenly contested game last Sunday morning in Garrycastle.

Playing with a strong wind in the first half Caulry needed to get a good score on the board before half-time but this was not going to be easy against a Garrycastle side who were determined to make the final themselves.

Caulry started off well with points from Robbie Hickey and Harry Hughes but Garrycastle answered with two points of their own. Further points from Michael Carroll stretched their lead and then Caulry got a fortuitous goal when a sideline ball from Carroll ended up in the net. Some superb saves from the Garrycastle  keeper kept them in the game but points from Harry Hughes, Alan Nugent and Hugh Allen left Caulry leading by seven points at half-time 1.08 to 0.4.

After their half-time team talk Garrycastle took control of the game and using the wind to full advantage kicked four unanswered points. However Caulry dug deep and a point from Eoin Donohoe gave the Caulry lads a boost. Garrycastle answered with a goal to leave a point between the teams but some great points from Robbie Hickey stretched his team’s lead to four points. Garrycastle never gave up and a goal put them back within a point. In an exciting finish both teams added on two points to leave Caulry holding on for a well deserved one point win and a final against either Moate or Milltownpass.
