Under 14 League Division 1
Caulry 2-16
Lilliput Gaels 5-7
Caulry travelled to Ballinagore on Monday week last, June the 8th, where they took on the combination side of St Malachy’s/Ballinagore and Loughnavalley know as Lilliput Gaels. Our lads played some quality football . combining good passing movements and fine scoring to lead 2-5 to 0-3 at the interval. However, missing some gilt edge goal scoring opportunities in particular left the door slightly ajar for the home side and within minutes of the resumption, Lilliput took full advantage with two quick fire goals. The second period was played at a frantic pace, with real end to end play. Some superb point scoring by Caulry’s Thomas Dunning, Olan Healy and Roan Sweeney kept Caulry’s noses in front, however, just when they looked like pulling away, they were hit with ‘sucker punch’ goals and in the end had to settle for a share of the spoils against a gallant home team. James Clavin excellent goalkeeping was backed up by lengthly kick outs, while Glen Carolan, Josh Jocker and Daniel Buckley excelled in front of him. Luke Hamilton and James Carey had their moments in midfield, supplying good possession. In attack, Thomas Dunning controlled much of the play with good vision, where Olan Healy and Roan Sweeney in particular reaped the benefits. Jamie Conlon also showed up really well at important stages and troubled the opposition with lightening pace.
Team: James Clavin, Leroy Coughlan, Glenn Carolan, Josh Jocker, Colm Shortall, Rory Mullins, Daniel Buckley (0-1), James Carey (0-1), Luke Hamilton, Ciaran Gaynor, Thomas Dunning (0-3), Olan Healy (0-4), Jamie Conlon (0-1), Charlie Malone, Roan Sweeney (2-5), Sean Malone, Shane Hynes, Dylan Joyce (0-1)

Junior Championship

Caulry 3-4

Athlone 2-12

Caulry suffered their third consecutive defeat in this year’s Junior Championship on Sunday evening last.

A fine point from Stephen Woods got Caulry off the mark in the 5th minute. Athlone began to build up a commanding lead as they scored four points in quick succession. Two late goals and a point left ten points between the sides at the interval on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-2.

On the resumption, both teams were slow to settle and were guilty of early misses. Caulry worked hard to make up the deficit and hit the back of the Athlone net with a fine goal from Aaron Roarke. However, Athlone responded with four fine points. Caulry’s second goal of the evening came from Mark Fitzpatrick. A third goal and two points left only four points bwtween the sides late in the game. A late point ensured Athlone the win on a final score of 3-4 to 2-12.
