U20 Championship
Caulry 1-16
Garrycastle 2-2
Our U20s progressed to the next stage of this year’s championship after they overcame neighbours Garrycastle in the park on Sunday morning last.
Garrycastle were first off the mark with a point from play inside the opening 60 seconds. Cialan Dollard opened the scoring account for Caulry before Jack Connaughton cleared his goal-line well setting Conor McCormack up for his first attack where he edged Caulry in front. Dollard pounced on the Garrycastle kickout and tapped over two fine points from play. Sean Fox then tore up the field and combined with Sean Clinton who left four between the sides. Eoin Shortall and Darren Hynds dealt well with the Garrycastle threat up front as our lads missed a goal chance at the other end of the field. Liam Malynn slotted over a free on the 12th minute before our lads wasted some scoring opportunities. The next two scores were from the boots of the Garrycastle forwards as they left just one point between the sides with a quick 1-1. Dollard and Malynn both added to their scoring tally as a late Garrycastle goal left it all square at the break on a scoreline of 0-8 to 2-2.
A scoreless second half was in store for the opposition as Connaughton diffused an early threat. Hynds and Charlie Parker had solid games in defence as scores from Malynn, Clinton, and McCormack saw our lads six points the good by the 40th minute. Malynn got lucky with a goal as his long-range shot was fumbled by the Garrycastle goalie whose vision was impaired by the blinding sunshine. Neil Clinton and Adam Donoghue added to the Caulry lead as late unsuccessful Garrycastle attacks saw Caulry run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-2.
