Sponsor Our Sod Fundraiser
Work is
planned to commence next month on the development of a state of the art
all-weather playing pitch and training area on the recently purchased 5 acres
of land adjoining the current Caulry playing facilities. This project will be
completed with the aid of a recently acquired Sports Council Grant coupled
with sponsorship monies to be raised by the Caulry Club itself. To this
end the club are launching a 'Sponsor Our Sod' fundraiser initiative,
whereupon present and former club members, players, supporters and
friends of the club are invited to sponsor a sod on the new playing
pitch for €50 and in return all sponsors will have their names permanently
displayed and celebrated on a special plaque to be erected on the club grounds.
All sponsors will also be entered into a special draw with excellent prizes to
be won which will take place at a special club function to be held in Egans,
Mount Temple on June 25th next. For more details and sponsorship cards please
contact any Executive Committee Member or call Padraig at 086 4083946 or
Irvine at 086 8578257. A committee member will be calling to all houses
this week.

Junior Championship
Caulry 1-9
Garrycastle
0-8
Caulry got
their Junior Championship campaign off to a winning start with a good win over
neighbours Garrycastle on Friday evening last.
Caulry raced
out of the tracks with an early goal from Stephen Brookes after a superb pass
from Eoin Donohoe. With a strong breeze on their back, Gary Flanagan and Paddy
Sleator pointed for the homeside. Emmet Nally defended well to earn himself a point
on the quarter-hour mark. Garrycastle kicked their first score of the game to
narrow the deficit. Some superb defending from Conor Dolan and Ernie Buckley
allowed Mark Fitzpatrick and Stephen Woods to add to the scoring tally. A late
point for the opposition left the scoreboard reading 1-5 to 0-2 at the
interval.
The teams
traded scores early in the second half with Alan Daly on target for the
homeside. Michael Carroll brought off a great save in goals to keep Caulry’s
noses in front. The defence held tight and two pointed-frees from Alan Daly
stretched our lead. Gary Flanagan had a strong game in the middle of the field
and good defending from substitute Harry Hughes allowed Sleator to add to the
scoring tally. A Garrycastle point late in the half left four points the margin
at the final whistle.

Senior Championship
Caulry 0-11
Coralstown/Kinnegad
1-6
Our senior
team followed suit on the following Sunday evening where they fought hard to
earn a two point victory in their opening game of this year’s SFC on a
scoreline of 0-11 to 1-6.
Caulry were
first off the mark with a point from Paddy Sleator inside the opening 60
seconds. Coralstown/Kinnegad were slow to settle with their first score of the
game coming on the 4th minute. A pointed-free for the opposition
meant they took the lead for the first time. Alan Fitzpatrick and John Maguire fielded
well and some superb play from Damien Dolan allowed Eoin Fox to point for
Caulry. Declan Donohoe and Kevin Maguire defended well as both teams traded
scores, with Robbie Hickey on target for Caulry, to leave the scoreboard
reading 0-3 a piece at the halftime whistle.
On the
resumption the opposition raced out of the tracks and pointed to take the lead
once again. Points from Hickey and Kevin Maguire narrowed the deficit early in
the second half. The opposition rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 8th
minute and after two missed goal opportunities it looked like it was not Caulry’s
evening. However, our defence held strong with Conor Dolan and Ernie Buckley
valiant in their endeavours. Caulry began chipping away at the deficit with two
scores from Conor McCormack. Joe McMahon brought off a great saves in goals,
the rebound which was tapped over the bar. Another Coralstown/Kinnegad point
left Caulry trailing by two points with just two minutes remaining. Our lads
dug deep and a pointed-free from Hickey left just one point the margin.
Substitute Emmet Nally worked hard and tapped over a superb score to leave it
level pegging late in the half. Further points from David Brookes and Nally meant
Caulry escaped with the victory on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-6.
