Caulry GAA PRO Notes 20th April 2014 -

posted 20 Apr 2014, 13:37 by Caulry Admin
Division 1  A.C.F.L.
Caulry 1-6
Tubberclaire 1-11
Caulry suffered their second consecutive defeat in Division 1 A.C.L. when going down to Tubberclaire  at home on Easter Saturday evening last. An early Peter Smyth point got Caulry off the mark, but this was as good as  it got, as the visitors made most of the first half running and purposeful play with a string of points. Some brilliant goalkeeping by Joe McMahon and points by Peter Smyth and Robbie Hickey kept Caulry in touch. However matters were not helped by the early sending off of Ben Kenny for two silly yellow cards.

On the resumption of play the Caulry lads made a credible efforts to make up the deficit with Patrick Sleator, Damian Dolan and Westmeath minor Eoin Fox valiant in their endeavours. However apart from Andy Sullivan who had a fine game throughout, the Caulry attack lacked the necessary support and guile to make incisive inroads on the scoreboard. James Pettit and Declan Donoghue also had fine games in defence and hopefully when the lengthly injured list are available again, management will be able to settle the team for the formidable challenges ahead.

Team & Scorers:  Joe McMahon, Alan Daly, Declan Donoghue, James Pettit, Patrick Sleator, Damian Dolan (0-1), Jack O Kelly-Lynch, Peter Smyth (0-4), John Maguire (1-0), Ernie Buckley, Eoghan Grennan, Ben Kenny, Stephen Woods, Robbie Hickey (0-1), Andy O Sullivan.
Subs Used: Brian Mullarney, Harry Hughes, Eoin Fox, Alan Carroll

Division 5 A.C.F.L.
Caulry 2-20
Killucan 3-3
Caulry achieved their second win in as many outings in this ACLF Div 5 game against Killucan at home on Sunday week last. From the start Caulry were the dominant side and despite Killucan being gifted a goal due to a defensive blunder early on and playing with the wind, Caulry still led 1-11 to 1-2 at half-time, with an opportunist goal by Alan Carroll and some particularly fine points by Peter Smyth and Alan Daly. The second half continued in the same vein, despite a couple of early Killucan goals, Caulry with the wind at their backs and playing well within themselves continued to score well taken points especially by Alan Carroll and Robbie Ryan and a goal by Robbie Hickey, to run out easy winners.
Team & Subs: Killian Nagle, Jack O Kelly-Lynch, Pat Buckley, Ian Malynn, Ernie Buckley, Aidan Murphy, Patrick Sleator, Peter Smyth (0-4),2f, Micky Fitzpatrick (0-1), Andy O Sullivan (0-1), Robbie Hickey (1-2)1f, Alan Daly (0-2), Stephen Woods (0-2), Alan Carroll (1-4), Robbie Ryan (0-3).

Under 10 Football
The Under 10 squad travelled to Tubberclaire on Sunday morning week last for their first outing of the year in the Westmeath Go Games. They fielded two evenly matched teams and put in an excellent performance  against the home side. On the following Wednesday they travelled to Cusack Park, Mullingar as part of the National Go Games Initiative and played three games against Millmore Gaels, Ballinacargy and St Marys Rochfortsbridge.
This was a great opportunity for all the young players to play on the county grounds and again showed good potential which will see many of them back again in some future county final day.
