Dinner Dance
The Caulry faithful travelled in large numbers to the Shamrock Lodge Hotel Athlone on Saturday night last to bring down the curtain on the successful 2014 season, and in particular celebrate the long awaited Intermediate Championship success. The packed enthusiastic crowd heard from various speakers including special guest, former Mayo player and St Brigids All-Ireland winning coach, now Cavan coach, Liam McHale, Westmeath County board chairman, Sean Sheridan and Caulry Chairman, Ger O Kelly Lynch.

Liam McHale said that the cornerstone of any successful club was a flourishing underage structure, and said the Caulry underage set up was the envy of many and a testament to the current and future success. He said that the players should continue the hard work and whatever they do, ‘give it their best shot’. Your time playing of 10-15 years is gone in the ‘blink of an eyelid,’ so make the most of it while you can. He also said that to win the championship after defeat by such narrow margins in the two previous finals showed a great character that exists in this group of players and with such a young age profile, they should now have a serious go at the senior championship. Wishing them the best of luck, he stated that he will be keeping an eye on their results.

Sean Sheridan congratulated everyone associated with their success. He complemented the club on their superb hosting of the Leinster Club championship match and said the recent purchase of lands to improve and expand playing facilities showed what a progressive club is about. He stated that he would assist in whatever way he could to help us in that future facility development. He highlighted the contribution and displays of Kevin Maguire and Damian Dolan to the Westmeath senior team as an example to all. He finished by saying that he anticipated a Caulry/Tyrrellspass Senior decider this year.

Chairman, Ger O Kelly Lynch complimented all the Intermediate championship and Division 5 League medal winners, and their management teams of Francie Grehan, Jody Malynn, JJ Cattigan, Enda Malone and Donie Malone, Noel Ryan and James Casey respectively. He thanked the dinner dance organising committee of Danny Muldoon, Jack Allen, Irvine Allen and Padraig Killane for a job well done and the management and staff of the Shamrock Lodge Hotel for fine food and service.

Gary Flanagan, on behalf of the players, made a special presentation to Breda Malynn for her expert catering to the players after training. However, she may be given the ‘week off’ before this year’s senior clash with her native, Castledaly.

The formalities concluded with the players receiving their medals from Liam McHale, and then the celebrations continued until the early hours.
