Sympathies
It was with great sadness and
regret that we learned of the death of Joe Roarke last week. Joe was an
advocate of the GAA and was greatly involved in the development and promotion
of the game abroad. Joe’s love of the GAA was born in Caulry with his honours
including winning the Junior Championship and League in 1957. Despite moving to
Birmingham the day after collecting his medals, Joe always held the GAA close
to his heart as he played with the Birmingham club Tara GAA. Joe also served
some time as a referee and was elected county PRO for Warwickshire County Board
GAA. However, he will always be remembered for serving an astounding 20 years
as Provincial Secretary of Britain. Due to Joe’s astonishing involvement in the
GAA, he was presented with a GAA President’s Award in 2010 by Uachtarán CLG
Criostóir Ó Cuana. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Roarke
family, Mount Temple, at this time.
The club also extends its
deepest sympathies to the Conlon family on the recent death of Fr. John Conlon.
John had a keen interest in the GAA and played much of his football with the
club. His honours with the club include winning the 1944 Junior Championship
and 1946 Intermediate Championship.
