Caulry GAA PRO Notes 25th Aug 2014 -

Intermediate Championship - Caulry advance to Quarter Finals -
Caulry 0-11
Milltownpass 0-7
Well done to the Intermediate squad on reaching the business end of the championship with a comfortable victory over Milltownpass on Sunday evening last at a wet and windy Rosemount.(see match report elsewhere). With Kevin Maguire, Ben Moran, Alan Fitzpatrick, Peter Smyth and David Brookes all in top form, this was our best championship display of the year and timely as we take on renowned championship fighters Ballymore in the quarter-final.

Under 14 Championship Division 1
Caulry 0-12
Athlone  1-10
Caulry and Athlone played out  a classic championship match in Caulry on Thursday evening last which the visitors won with a superb point in injury time and thus reversing the earlier league result between the sides. The game was real end to end, as a real tactical battle ensued. The decisive score came in the second quarter, when after a brilliant save from James Clavin, the rebound was eventually finished to the net. This put some daylight between the teams 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval and ultimately would prove too much for the Caulry boys to claw back with only points.
Caulry made most of the running in the second half, but that elusive goal would not come. Despite a number of opportunities, the Athlone goal remained intact. The teams were level  at full time but a wounderous injury time score broke Caulry hearts when a draw would have been a fairer result. Nevertheless, it was a great display of football by both teams which would have been out of place in senior grade and provide great entertainment for the good sized crowd.
For Caulry, James Clavin proved a safe keeper with good kick-outs. Jack Sheehan, Eugene Costello, Eoin Shortall and Darren Browne were outstanding in defence. Colin Murphy, Sean Fox, Thomas Dunning, Glen Carolan, Neil Clinton were tireless and inventive workers as they ran themselves almost to a standstill for their team, Darcy Lawless made a welcome return and with Adam Donoghue and Roan Sweeney proved dangerous attackers with the right ball.
Well done to all the players and hopefully they can continue to perform and with a little luck, start picking up some championship points.
