Division 1 Minor League
Caulry 4-6
St. Lomans 3-9
Our minor lads narrowly escaped with a draw when they travelled to Lakepoint Park on Sunday morning last for their second outing in this year’s MFL.
The Caulry boys raced out of the tracks with a fine point from Thomas Dunning inside the opening 60 seconds. However, our lads were then dealt a double-blow as the opposition rattled the back of the Caulry net and midfielder Sean Fox was forced to retreat to the sideline after picking up an injury. St. Lomans continued on their scoring ways with an impressive 2-3 as our attack failed to pay dividends. Rory Mullins then brought off a fine save on the 17th minute as some good play from Glen Carolan and Dylan Lowry set Roan Sweeney up for a point. Colin Murphy kicked the next score of the game to leave nine points between the sides. The teams traded scores just before the interval with Adam Donoghue on target for Caulry to leave the homeside leading 3-4 to 0-4.
St. Lomans were first off the mark in the second half with a fine point from play. Sweeney got his second score of the game on the 36th minute. The opposition attacked well and were unlucky to miss two goal scoring opportunities, one attempt which was brilliantly block down by Mullins. Dunning and Olan Healy raced forward, with their effort resulting in a penalty for Caulry which was neatly slotted into the net by Donoghue. Neil Clinton fielded well as Luke Buckley put his name on the scoreboard with a well-taken goal on the 43rd minute to leave four points the margin. Our lads began to play patches of fine football as a well-taken goal from Sweeney left the narrowest of margins between the sides with the final 10 minutes looming. Adam Mullins defended well as a pointed-free from Murphy left it 3-6 a piece on the 55th minute. Our lads then sat back and let the opposition back into the game as St. Lomans rattled off three quick points to take the lead. However, the Caulry boys dug deep as a last minute goal from Zach Nolan left it level-pegging at the final whistle on a scoreline of 4-6 to 3-9.
