Division 1 ACFL
Caulry 1-3
St Lomans 1-14
Caulry suffered a disappointing defeat in the opening game of this year’s Division 1 ACFL on Saturday afternoon last when they went down to a strong St. Lomans side on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-3.
St. Lomans were first to find their feet with a point in the opening 60 seconds. The opposition then went on a quick scoring blitz, which yielded an unanswered 1-7.  Caulry went scoreless in the first half and a second goal opportunity for St. Lomans was deflected over the bar by Michael Carroll to leave the homeside trailing 1-9 to 0-0 at the half time whistle.
St. Lomans were first off the mark again in the second half. This was shortly followed by a superb pass from Alan Fitzpatrick found Paddy Sleator who rattled the back of the opposition’s net. St. Lomans responded with two quick points. Some good defending from Ernie Buckley and Conor Dolan and two more great saves from Carroll in goals allowed Caulry back into the game. However, St. Lomans began adding points to build up a commanding lead. Our lads tried hard against a good opposition and a point from Sleator narrowed the margins. Sleator and Fitzpatrick added to the scoring tally late in the game. Ultimately, our lads missed too many chances and chased the deficit throughout to leave the scoreboard reading 1-14 to 1-3 at the final whistle.
