Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-7
St. Marys Rochfortbridge 2-12
Our lads suffered their second consecutive defeat in this year’s Division 2 ACFL when they made the journey to Rochfortbridge on Saturday evening last.
Despite missing scoring opportunities early on, our lads were first off the mark with a fine point from Eoghan Grennan after a good intercept from Alan Fitzpatrick. St. Marys soon followed suit with a point of their own on the 2nd minute. The opposition then put their noses in front with a brace of points between the 6th and 13th minute. Sean Clinton worked hard as Grennan combined well with Alan Daly setting himself up for his second point of the game. However, our lads were dealt a blow as St. Marys raced up the field and rattled the back of the Caulry net. A pointed-free from Andy O’Sullivan drew one back as the opposition began to dominate proceedings with a second goal on the 27th minute. Darren Hynds tried hard as he reduced the deficit with a fine point before the interval. A late pointed-free for the Rochfortbridge side saw them lead 2-6 to 0-4 at the break.
St. Marys were first off the mark in the second half as they kick three unanswered points. Pointed-frees from Fitzpatrick and O’Sullivan reduced the deficit by the end of the third quarter. Cillian Nagle brought off a fine save in goals, the rebound of which went over the bar to add to the opposition’s tally. The teams then traded scores late in the game to leave the scoreboard reading 2-12 to 0-7 at fulltime.

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 2-11
CFCW 0-9
Our juniors picked up their first brace of points in this year’s Division 4 ACFL when they played host to CFCW on Sunday afternoon last.
Both sides were slow to settle and were guilty of early misses. CFCW got off the mark with a point on the 3rd minute. Harry Hughes then tapped over Caulry’s first score of the game after a good pass from Peter Smyth. Darren Hynds edged Caulry in front with his effort on the 10th minute. The teams traded scores with Smyth adding two for the homeside. Some great combined teamwork from Smyth and Paddy McMahon set Anthony Allen up for a fine point on the 18th minute. Stephen Connolly fielded well and put his name on the scoresheet as he raced up the field and riffled the opposition’s net soon after. CFCW drew one back with a fine point from play. However, our lads responded well after good work from Ernie Buckley, Hughes and Smyth enabled Buckley to add to the scoring tally. The teams exchanged points again with Smyth and Hughes on target for Caulry. Some good defending from Loughlin Casey enabled McMahon to point late in the half, leaving Caulry lead 1-9 to 0-5 at the interval.
CFCW started the second half well with three quick scores. Brian Mullarney defended well as CFCW put pressure on our backline. Liam Malynn got Caulry’s second goal of the game after Smyth’s initial attempt was well blocked down. A point from Ben Kenny stretched Caulry’s lead on the 48th minute. Despite some good defending from Declan Donohoe, the opposition pointed to narrow the margins between the sides. Ultimately, our lads proved too strong for the opposition as a late point from Alan Daly ensured Caulry a comfortable win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-9.
