Caulry GAA PRO Notes 2nd May

Intermediate Championship
On Sunday last in Rochfortbridge, Caulry took on North-Westmeath side Castletown/Finea/Coole/Whitehall in a first round group game in this year's championship.Trailing at half-time by 1-4 to 0-4 points and after losing mid-fielder Gary Flanagan through injury after 25 minutes and not playing to their full potential, Caulry sprang young Andrew O'Sullivan from the bench for the second half and he duly obliged by slotting home a great individual goal to bring Caulry right back into the game and with both sides giving it their all in the closing stages, a point by substitute Mark Fitzpatrick (inset) secured a well deserved draw with a final score-line of 1-8
apiece and a sigh of relief for the large Caulry attendance at the game (see full match report details elsewhere in the newspaper).

Team & Scorers: Joe McMahon, Pat Buckley, Kevin Maguire, Michael Donohoe, Damien Dolan, Ben Moran, Jack O'Meara, Gary Flanagan 0-1, James Daly, Johnny Dolan, Alan Fitzpatrick, Eoghan Grennan, Robbie Kenny 0-2, Peter Smyth 0-3 (2f), Ernie Buckley. Subs Used : Nicky Killane for Gary Flanagan, Andrew O'Sullivan (1-1) for Pat Buckley, Mark Fitzpatrick (0-1) for Nicky Killane.
Caulry's next game in the championship is this coming Saturday (May 7th) versus local rivals Moate in Pairc Ui Ciarain, Athlone at 5.30pm and we are hoping again that a big local support will be in attendance.
Caulry U-16s
Caulry 6-17 St Mary’s Rochfortbridge 2-7
Caulry had their third outing in the league on Tuesday evening last when they met St Mary’s Rochfortbridge in the Park. Having lost to Tubberclair  ( 1-8 to 2-12) in the first game and beating Moate ( 7-11 to 3-5) in the second game it was important that they came away with a win to stay in contention in the league
Caulry played with a lot of purpose from the start with good link up play between the backs, midfield and the forwards and soon had the game under control. Long range point taking is a feature of this team with good running to set up goal scoring chances. This was a very good team effort and the side had their scoring boots on hitting 6-17 in all to run out easy winners in the end.
Their next game is versus Shandonagh.
