Caulry GAA PRO Notes 4th May 2014 -

posted 5 May 2014, 06:38 by Caulry Admin
Ladies Under-12 -
Caulry played host to  Kilbeggan/ St. Josephs  last Thursday evening as two evenly matched teams put on a great display of football.
Caulry opened the scoring with a  goal from Geraldine Maguire followed shortly by a point from Katie Killane. We were down two points at half time but our girls came back in the 2nd half with massive determination especially our back lines who had huge support from Alanna Shortall & Jasmine Maloney and only allowed the visitors through to get 1 point in the 2nd half. With 2 points from Aine Gaynor in the 2nd half it looked like Caulry could overcome the visitors but unfortunately time wasn’t on our side and we were defeated by 1 point.
Final score: Caulry1-3  Kilbeggan/St. Josephs 1-4.

Under 8 Football Blitz
Tubberclaire was the venue for our Under 8 Footballers first Blitz of the year and indeed the first time for many of the players to don the red and white jersey. While many names will be familiar with Caulry stars of the past, there were many new names who come with a rich pedigree also. Caulry had the largest contingent of some 34 players, who demonstrated their potential against the best of Athlone, Tubberclaire, Castledaly and Maryland/Tang. Well done to the players and their mentors.

County Underage
Westmeath GAA in partnership with AIT recently launched an Under 13 development football academy. After a series of trials and tests 4 Caulry players, Daniel Buckley, James Clavin, Adam Donoghue and Thomas Dunning have been selected to go forward for what is envisaged to be a 5 year training programme.
In the Under 14 grade, Darren Browne, Neil Clinton, Shane Cleary, Sean Fox, Dylan Lowry, Adam Mullins and Colin Murphy, made it a magnificent 7 when they were selected for a recent rare Westmeath victory over Dublin. In addition Emmet Nally and Jack Bradbury Hughes are featuring with the Under 16, as is Eoin Fox at minor level.
Well done to all and we hope they will go on to emulate Kevin and Damian in representing Westmeath at the highest level.
