Minor League
Caulry 5-19
Mullingar Shamrocks 4-2
Our minor lads had a good start to this year’s league with their win over Mullingar Shamrocks on Sunday morning last.
Caulry hit the ground running with a point from Colin Murphy and goal from Paddy McHugh inside the opening five minutes. Mullingar Shamrocks reduced the deficit as they rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 7th minute. Caulry’s second goal of the morning came from Matthew Nally. The teams traded scores with Murphy and McHugh tapping over some fine points. The homeside then began to build up a commanding lead with two more goals from Aaron Fallon and Nally. Lee Guinan and Ciaran Geoghegan defended well as Adam Mullins, Cialan Dollard, Murphy and Sean Woods added to the scoring tally to leave Caulry leading 4-8 to 1-1 at the interval.
The second half continued in the same vein with Fallon and Woods adding on some early points. A goal from Nally and two points from Dollard kept the scoreboard ticking over. However, the opposition worked hard and hit the Caulry net for a second time on the 43rd minute. Our defence held strong, with Eoin Shortall, Rian Rasmussen and Dylan Lowry having impressive displays, as further scores from Dollard and Sean Fox allowed our lads to push on. Liam Malynn brought off a great save on the 48th minute to deny Shamrocks a goal. However, the visitors never gave up as they rattled our net for a third time. Both teams exchanged points with Fallon, Murphy, Neil Clinton and Darcy Lawless on target for Caulry. A late goal for the Mullingar lads left the scoreboard reading 5-19 to 4-2 at the fulltime whistle.
