Caulry GAA PRO Notes 6th April 2014 -

All County League Division 1 -
Tyrrellspass 0-18 - Caulry 2-7 -
Caulry’s Travelled to Tyrrellspass on Sunday morning last to play the Tidy Town in their second outing of the ACL Division 1. Shorn of their county players, Kevin Maguire and Damian Dolan, the injured Michael McMahon, David Brookes, Eoin Fox, Keith McMemamian, the late arriving Alan Fitxpatrick and with Gary Flanagan (illness) also unable to start, this was always going to be a difficult task away to last years county Senior finalists. The home side played with the stiff breeze in the first half and led 12 points to nil before Peter Smyth opened the Caulry account with a good point from play. The naivety in allowing the home side so much space and time, together with a lack of workrate and scoring threat were worrying features for the Caulry management, although there was wholehearted defending from Joe McMahon, James Pettit and Declan Donoghue.

The introduction of Gary Flanagan at the interval gave Caulry a platform at midfield for the second period, while Alan Carroll also showed there are few better at finding the net, with two opportunist strike once again. Peter Smyth was the only other forward to show the necessary guile and energy needed at this level.

The other bright notes were a very good debut by young Paddy Sleator, and Alan Daly’s great appetite to undertake any task or position is an example to the many others lacking in this important ingredient if we are to survive against this type of opposition.

Team & Scorers: Joe McMahon, Alan Daly, James Pettit, Jack O Kelly-Lynch, Paddy Sleator, Declan Donoghue, Ernie Buckley, Eoin Donoghue, John Maguire, Andy Sullivan, Peter Smyth (0-7), Eoghan Grennan, Stephen Woods, Robbie Hickey, Robbie Ryan.
