Under 21 County Semi-final

Caulry 1-5
Mullingar Shamrocks 0-9

Caulry took on Mullingar Shamrocks in the semi-final of the 15 a-side U/21 Co. Championship in the Park last Saturday afternoon. On a perfect day for football with good Autumn sunshine and no breeze the game opened with both sides eager to gain the initiative. At two points a-piece after 15 minutes following a brace of points from Andrew O'Sullivan including a free, Caulry went into the lead following a lovely soccer style chip and resultant goal by David Brookes which gave Caulry a healthy lead but Mullingar kept plugging away and followed up with two points of their own to leave the half-time score Caulry 1-2 Mullingar Shamrocks 0-4.

The second half opened brightly for Caulry and following points from Eric Fallon and a converted free by Ben
Moran (right), it was looking like it was going to be  Caulry's day who were now in the lead by three points approaching the mid-way point and playing some good football, however a fitter and more determined Mullingar side did not give in, and following some excellent points from play clawed back the lead. Caulry responded with an Eric Fallon free but Mullingar had now upped the tempo and had Caulry very much pinned in their own half in the closing 10 minutes which resulted in further point scoring to edge them into a one point lead. A last minute 40 metre free for Caulry in an attempt to force the game into extra time drifted wide and Mullingar advanced to the final.

A bitterly disappointed Caulry squad will rue some missed opportunities but as the vast  majority of  players on
show  on Saturday are eligible again next year for this grade, all is not lost for another tilt at this key championship.
