Minor League
Caulry 9-16
Kilbeggan/St. Josephs 2-6
Caulry picked up another brace of points in this year’s Minor Division 2 League when they played host to a much depleted Kilbeggan/St. Josephs side on Wednesday evening last.
The opposition started the game well and raced out of the tracks with a superb point from play. The Kilbeggan/St. Joseph lads worked hard and rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 3rd minute. However, our lads soon found their feet with a pointed-free from Colin Murphy. A point from Sean Woods reduced the deficit. Caulry took the lead for the first time in the game on the 5th minute with a well-taken goal from Cialan Dollard. The opposition pointed to level proceedings. Some great fielding from Dollard enabled Neil Clinton who pointed on the 7th minute. The game went on a point-for-point basis with Liam Malynn adding to the scoring tally. A goal from Matthew Nally put four points between the sides as Caulry began to dominate proceedings. Some great combined teamwork from Malynn and Dollard enabled Dollard to register his second goal of the evening. Our lads had a quick scoring blitz which yielded an unanswered 2-1 to put Caulry in the driving seat. The Kilbeggan/St. Josephs goalie brought off a great save as Murphy had to settle for a point on the 17th minute. Rian Rasmussen and Lee Guinan Malone defended well as Nally and Malynn kicked the next two scores of the game. Two quick points for Kilbeggan/St. Josephs reduced the deficit. However, a late point from Nally left Caulry leading 5-10 to 1-5 at the halftime whistle.
The second half followed in much the same vein with Clinton tapping over two superb scores early on. Dollard got his hattrick on the 32nd minute, which was soon followed by a goal from Aaron Fallon. The Caulry lads worked hard, playing patches of nice combined teamwork, and widened the margins between the sides with scores from Woods, Clinton, Daniel Buckley and Dollard. However, the Kilbeggan/St. Jospehs lads must be commended for their never-say-die attitude as they tried hard, scoring 1-1 late in the half. Ultimately, our lads had done enough with Murphy contributing the final point of the game on a scoreline of 9-16 to 2-6.
