Congratulations to the Marist College, and especially Caulry lads Harry Hughes, Andy O'Sullivan and Evan Rourke on their 2-09 to 1-11 win over St Patricks Navan in the Final of the
North Leinster Colleges Junior Football Championship.

Both sides took to the field in their traditional colours. Marist in primrose and blue and St Pats in yellow and black. Because of the colour clash Marist after losing a coin toss turned their jersies inside out.

Midfielder Aaron Curley got the first score of the game for the Athlone side. By the interval Marist held a one point lead, 1-5 to 1-4. Centre foward Andy O'Sullivan got the winner's goal while St Pat's managed to miss three glorious goal scoring opportunities. Niall Lyons eventually scored a goal when he raced through the Marist defence for the St Pat's three pointer.

A mix up in the St Pat's defence allowed Marist captain Niall McInerney tap the ball home for his side's second goal midway through the second half. St Pat's to their credit kept on battling. Midfielder Paddy Kennelly kicked two great scores and when Colm O'Reilly landed the equalising point with ten minutes left, things looked good for the Navan outfit. But thats as good as it got for Pats. Points from Evan Rourke and substitute Padraic Fagan sealed the issue for Marist to the delight of their large band of supporters.

After the game Tom O'Donnell presented the North Leinster Junior Shield to Marist Captain Seamie Byrne.

Marist scorers: Andy O'Sullivan and Seamie Byrne 1-1 each, Michael Monaghan 0-2 Aaron Curley, TJ Fox, Niall McInerney, Evan Rourke and Padraic Fagan 0-1 each

St Pats scorers: Robbie McDonnell 0-5, Niall Lyons 1-1, Paddy Kennelly 0-3, David Dillon and Colm O'Reilly 0-1 each
